A Brief History of Greek Salad

Greek salad, also known as "horiatiki" salad, is a traditional dish that has been enjoyed in Greece for centuries. The salad typically consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, feta cheese, and olives, and is often dressed with olive oil and red wine vinegar. The origins of Greek salad can be traced back to the ancient Greek diet, which was heavily based on vegetables and fruits. The salad was originally made with whatever vegetables were in season, and was typically served as a side dish with bread and other staples.

Over time, Greek salad evolved to include more ingredients such as bell peppers, capers, and anchovies. The addition of feta cheese, which is a traditional Greek cheese, also became a staple ingredient in the salad. Greek salad is now popular around the world and is often served as a main dish, often with the addition of grilled meats or seafood.

It's worth noting that the term "Greek salad" can vary depending on the region or country you are in, since it's not a registered or protected name. The addition of hemp hearts as an ingredient is a more recent one and it's not common in traditional Greek salad.
