Grits Recipe Ingredients

 1 cup Grits
 2 cups water
 3 cups milk
 1 bay leaf
 2 tbsp unsalted butter
 1 cup white sharp cheddar cheese , please add salt to your tastes

Grits Cooking Directions

Start by adding water, milk, the bay leaf, and salt to your heavy saucepan. Bring everything to a boil.

Gradually whisk in the grits, until you have added the whole serving into the pot, a little at a time. Be sure to keep stirring with a whisk to prevent any lumps from forming. You may have to remove the saucepan from the heat while trying to get rid of lumps.

Reduce heat and cook the grits at a simmer, cover, and stir frequently until water is fully absorbed and the grits have thickened. This will take you about 15 minutes.

Remove the grits from heat; add butter and cheese, stirring with a whisk until the cheese has melted.

Assemble the dish by placing the grits at the bottom of a shallow bowl, top with your preferred toppings, for example, shrimp.
